Couldn’t resist one more Eleanor In The Snow series:

See that satisfied dreamy look in her eye?

Happy Blogaversary To Me!

27 01 2009

I’m so happy I could do this:

Scoop

Give a devilish look

Very slowly bend knees (this was my favorite part, she was so deliberate and slow)

Woohoo!!!!!

OK, so it’s not because it’s my blogaversary, though it is. It’s because my hubby replaced the annoyingly loud fan in my laptop!!!!!! Maybe I can actually enjoy being online again. One of the thousand reasons I’ve been a little absent from this site is that I could rarely hold out long enough to post. The whiring seemed to eat at me. Now it’s whisper quiet and I’m in heaven.

I was recently lucky enough to receive a couple of prints from Sarah. Actually it was last month. I wanted to wait until I framed them to show you but I can’t wait any longer as she’s having a giveaway and I thought you should know. The photos I took of them are horrible but I wanted you to see how fabulously they go with my wall colors. The squash is for the kitchen, the pear for the dining room. It’s hard to tell here as it’s difficult for me to photograph photographs, but the shade of my dinning room wall matches exactly one of the gradations in the pear. Amazing. How did she know, as at the time she had never been to my house before? See much better quality images of these prints here and here, respectively.

Sarah sell prints of her Polaroids and I’m coveting her Astrid’s Flowers print to put up next to the pear. Sign up for her 200th post give away, purchase a print from her shop, or just go enjoy her flickr stream. You won’t be disappointed.

The Best Mom Ever

15 01 2009

Time for a little show and tell. I was not the handmade gift giving queen this year like I was, at least a little, last year. In fact I did not manage one single handmade gift on time. My mom and sister on the other hand… Well, as I can find time to photograph I’ll just simply have to show you. Here we have a doll my mom made from a pattern by Hillary at Wee Wonderfuls. I had intended on making one myself but by Thanksgiving it was evident to me that it wasn’t going to happen. My mom stepped up to the plate and didn’t she do a wonderful job?

From my mom’s description the pattern was well written. The hardest part were the eyebrows. The slightest difference and dolly became angry, sad, surprised… She figured it out though. Here she is in a vintage crib given to me by a friend and fixed up by my parents along with what I believe is a vintage marrimeko pillow from my childhood. (Correct me if I’m wrong mom.)

I’ll show you the before and after pictures of the crib someday soon. But first I have to figure out if I want a stencil or decal on the end panel.  Any suggestions for a 1950s metal doll crib? Of course, in my head I keep seeing the cute decal that was on it prior to painting. But it needed to sanded and painted. I just need to take a step back and think outside the box.

Eleanor did not immediately take to the doll like I had hoped.I knew that was a risk. But I can safely say she has now. My only hopes is that my mom sewed that hair in tight. At least I convinced Eleanor to use the comb over her brother’s hair brush.

Perpetual Calendar

12 01 2009

Photos courtesy of Photojojo.

OK, I can’t even describe to you how much I want to make this calendar. It’s made of photos clipped together and can be used indefinitely. I want to walk up and down University Ave finding numbers to photograph. Or if I’m smart, I’ll even enlist my son to help me locate all the numbers I need. Wonder if I can think of somewhere inside with way less snow that I can find a bunch of awesome numbers.

Anyway, you can find the how-to and the clips at Photojojo. If you like photography, you should definitely be signed up for their newsletter. Seriously. I swear to you every single email I get from them tickles my funny bone. Oh, and they have pretty good picture taking tips and projects too.

And for those polaroid peeps out there, check out this and this version of the calendar. Neat!

After thought: Doesn’t this project remind you of Jen’s Friday Letters? Any locals that wish to join me on a letter photo scavanger hunt are welcome. I’m thinking an antique store or architectural salvage place would be good.

Jumping Back In

11 01 2009

I finished this sweater this weekend. It’s made from a pattern in Rowan Junior out of Cashsoft 4-ply. It was supposed to be for Christmas but at least I’m no too far behind. It still fits her and she has room to grow. This is my 3rd time making this sweater as I made two newborn sizes as well. They knit up so quickly that I fell in love with the pattern. Ummm… maybe it was because they were so tiny that they knit up so quickly as it didn’t fly off my needles this time. The whole sweater like many of the projects in this fabulous book are done on size 2 and size 3 needles. For those of you that don’t knit it basically means I was knitting on sticks closer in width to a toothpick than a chopstick. Adds a little challenge, I say.

What I didn’t do the first two times around was the little flower.  Oh, how I love that little flower. Adds a bit of romance.
